This policy explains what personal data Noor e Quran Academy collects, why, and how we protect it in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who We Are

Noor e Quran Academy ("we", "us", "our") provides live, one-to-one online Quran lessons to families across the UK. This Privacy Policy applies to everyone who visits our website, books a free trial, or enrols as a student, and it explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data.

Noor e Quran Academy is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. If you have any questions, contact us at info@noorequranacademy.co.uk or on WhatsApp at +44 7828 728362.

What Personal Data We Collect

We only collect the personal data we need to book, deliver, and manage your Quran lessons. Depending on how you use our services, this can include:

  • Contact details: name, email address, phone number, and the UK city or region you are learning from.
  • Account and student details: the student's age and gender, chosen course (for example Noorani Qaida, Tajweed, or Hifz), preferred language of instruction (English, Urdu, or Arabic), and lesson scheduling preferences.
  • Payment information: billing details processed through our third-party payment processor. We do not store full card numbers on our own servers.
  • Lesson records: attendance, progress notes, and teacher feedback used to track a student's learning journey.
  • Communications: messages you send us by email, WhatsApp, or our contact forms.
  • Technical data: basic website usage information such as browser type and pages visited, described further in our Cookie Policy.

How We Use Your Personal Data

We use your personal data to book and run your lessons, to communicate with you about your account, and to meet our legal obligations. We rely on the following legal bases under UK GDPR:

  • Contract: to register you as a student, book lessons, and take payment for the course you have chosen.
  • Legitimate interests: to match you with a suitable teacher, send lesson reminders, and improve our service.
  • Legal obligation: to keep safeguarding and financial records we are required to retain.
  • Consent: for optional marketing updates and non-essential cookies, which you can withdraw at any time.

We do not use your personal data for any automated decision-making or profiling that produces a legal or similarly significant effect on you.

Who We Share Your Data With

We share personal data only with the parties needed to run our service, and we never sell your data. This includes:

  • Your assigned teacher, so they can prepare and deliver lessons.
  • A secure, third-party payment processor, to process course fees on our behalf.
  • The video-calling platform used for your lessons, Zoom, Skype, or Google Meet, chosen to suit your family.
  • Email and messaging providers used to send booking confirmations and lesson reminders.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under UK GDPR, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or a provider's own UK GDPR compliance framework, to keep your data protected.

How We Protect Children's Data

Many of our students are children learning the Quran with a parent or guardian's support. A parent or guardian always creates and manages the account, and we collect only the information needed to teach the child safely and appropriately, such as their age, course level, and lesson progress.

We never allow direct, unsupervised contact between a teacher and a child student outside official lesson time on the agreed platform. Full detail on how this fits into our wider child protection approach is set out in our Safeguarding Policy.

How Long We Keep Your Data

We keep your personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purposes set out in this policy. As a general rule:

  • Active account and lesson records are kept for as long as you remain enrolled with us.
  • After you leave, we retain core account and payment records for up to 6 years to meet UK tax and accounting obligations.
  • Safeguarding-related records may be kept for longer where required for child protection purposes, in line with our Safeguarding Policy.

When data is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymise it.

How We Keep Your Data Secure

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse, including restricted access to student records and secure, PCI-compliant payment processing. All of our teachers are DBS-checked, and access to student information is limited to what each teacher needs to teach their own students.

Your Rights Under UK GDPR

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Ask us to erase your data, subject to our legal and safeguarding retention obligations.
  • Ask us to restrict how we use your data.
  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent for marketing or non-essential cookies at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email info@noorequranacademy.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's independent regulator for data protection.

Cookies

Our website uses a small number of cookies to work properly and to help us understand how visitors use the site. Full detail on what cookies we use and how to manage them is set out in our dedicated Cookie Policy.
